When Lead Volume Was Not the Problem
Context
Familiar in brokerages where portal leads, campaign leads and walk-ins share one queue and one excuse.
Problem
The request on the table is a bigger budget. The evidence on the table is a blended conversion number and a feeling that “the leads are bad.”
Diagnosis
Trace a sample from each major source. Who received it. How long until a real attempt. Whether ownership changed. Whether marketing’s definition of a lead matches the one sales uses when it complains.
What the data showed
The audit compares response time and contact rate by source, and the share of leads touched once and then left.
Root cause
Marketing and sales are arguing about quality because operations never made handling visible. Without that, every weak week becomes a demand for more spend.
Intervention
Put a response standard on the sources that already show intent. Give unworked leads a visible owner and an escalation, before any new budget discussion.
Business implication
More leads, on the current rule, scale the leak. The commercial question is what happens in the first hours, not what the next campaign is called.
